Health is something a lot of us forget to prioritize while working. Our goal mostly is to go from task to task until the end of the day when we are exhausted and have no more energy left. Sounds familiar? It's common. But its not okay. Why? Because your health (mental and physical) could be affected severely by prioritizing work over everything else.

Implementing small effective changes can cumulatively have a positive impact on your well being. Here are some tips to care for your health, even on busy days:

  • Take Short Breaks: Taking short breaks instead of working at a stretch can not only relax you but also improve your productivity. It refreshes your mind, and gives you more energy to continue working.
  • Set Reminders to Drink Enough Water: During a busy day it might be hard to remember to drink ample amount of water. Therefore, setting reminders using apps like this can keep your water intake in check. Keeping your body hydrated can increase your energy, improve brain function, and reduce stress.
  • Reduce Sitting Hours: Did you know? A 2014 study by Texas A&M University showed that people at standing desks were 45% more productive than those who were seated. Investing in a sit stand desk  can minimize the chances of many health issues including neck or shoulder pain, obesity, heart diseases, etc.
  • Get to the Root of Your Stressful Thoughts (Is it worth worrying?): Get into the habit of finding out the root cause of what's stressing you out. A lot of times, a short pep talk to yourself can help you come out of a dull mood. Don't stress over something that's not in your control; and if it is within your control, take the action to solve it and let go of any negative thoughts around it.
  • Connect with Your Support System: Call up your loved ones and share with them how your day is going, for emotional support. In case if you're not blessed with an ideal support system, make journaling your best friend. Try journaling to let out your thoughts and feelings. 

Don't force yourself to make huge changes overnight. That will add on to the stress you already have in your work life. The key is to change the way you work, one step at a time. Let's not overlook the huge impact small steps can have.
